Buxton History

The company was founded in 1994 by Tom Buxton, who recognized that accurate market research and customer insight were the keys to business success. During his two-decade career at Tandy Corporation, the Texas consumer electronics giant, he came to realize that customer data analysis could be used to select high-performing sites for retail stores. Using seed money from his own pocket, he started Buxton and set out to prove this methodology.

Within a year, some of the top names in retailing were using Buxton data for site selection. The company’s vast data resources, combined with proprietary technologies, made it the leader in site selection for both retail and restaurants.

As the company grew, Buxton identified other innovative uses for customer data, allowing it to expand into other industries. Today, we help communities boost economic development and improve quality of life by attracting retailers and healthcare facilities. We help healthcare organizations find the best locations for new facilities and identify the medical services to offer there. We help manufacturers determine where to launch new products and how to forecast in-store demand. And we help companies of all kinds use advanced marketing solutions to develop long-term relationships with customers.

In 2008, Buxton announced a strategic partnership with Experian, a global information services firm. This groundbreaking partnership allows us to deliver our proven solutions on a worldwide scale while giving our clients access to more tools and technologies than ever before.
