Tandy's Implementation of a Vision

Charles D. Tandy purchased RadioShack in 1963, when it was a financially troubled nine-store chain operating in the northeast. The bold Texan made an immediate and vital impression on the executives at RadioShack by embarking on an aggressive store expansion plan.

In the first year after the acquisition, RadioShack added 57 new stores and nearly turned a profit from a loss of over $4 million the year before.

The executives were apprehensive when they heard the goal, but they met Tandy's expectations, and the rest became retailing history. Charles Tandy also understood the importance of keeping his top team together, so he told these executives that if they stuck with him, he'd make them all millionaires. And he did.
