Re-Thinking the Economic Impact of Corporate Relocations

Here’s an interesting study. In an article that appeared in the Fort Worth Business Press, the Arlington, Texas Chamber President Wes Jurey states that they conducted a study of the economic impact of the 25 largest corporate relocations in the country. Their findings: “There’s a lot of expense and not that much revenue, plus there’s this, net job growth this past decade has not come from Fortune 500 companies. Most are shrinking and will continue to shrink because they have to reduce the number of employees in order to compete…” Although Arlington is preparing for the impact of the slowdown at their General Motors plant, its effect will be diminished by developments such the new Dallas Cowboys’ stadium and the upscale Arlington Highlands shopping complex and a focus on supporting small business opportunities where most jobs are created.
