Tourism as a revenue generator

From the Top 10 most visited cities in the U.S. to even the smallest towns, city leaders are constantly promoting the highlights of their community be it for attraction of new citizens or tourists. Tourist dollars can generate revenue for cities (hotel/bed tax, sales tax, etc.) and increasingly so. Hotel News Now reports that in 2011 U.S. hotel transactions topped $19 billion.

Another article from the Sacramento Business Journal suggests that tourism could be the key to driving California out of their economic hard times.

Buxton has recently come into an agreement with a large credit card processing company, so we are able to track activity spent with this particular credit card. Palm Springs, California recently hired us to help identify who their tourists actually were, and where those large concentrations of tourists were coming from to increase their tourism efforts and align local businesses with the consumer preferences of visitors.
