Portfolio Audit

Identify unmet opportunities among your location network.

Buxton’s portfolio audit provides insights into how your locations are performing and where further investment is likely to yield results. We use your existing site score model to score the locations included in your model sample set and then compare the score to actual performance. The comparison organizes your locations into four groups that can help you identify where to maintain, invest, close/relocate, or study further. This type of portfolio audit is a standard deliverable for most site score models except for enhanced (theoretical) models, automated models, and customer value models.

Healthcare clients who have purchased industry or enhanced industry models for specific service lines or facility types receive a different version of the portfolio audit that is sometimes referred to as a facility assessment. This assessment scores existing facilities that do not currently offer the service to determine if there is potential to add it as an additional care option at those facilities. If you have purchased multiple models for various service lines/facility types and wish to conduct an assessment for each, Buxton will combine the results into a single table to help you quickly optimize the service mix by facility.

Output & Utilization

The final deliverable of the classic portfolio audit is accessible in SCOUT, which shows how each scored location’s actual performance compares to its predicted performance. Locations fall into one of four grids:

  • High Performance/High Score: Your real estate team’s goal should be to find more sites just like these, and operations should replicate the best practices of these facilities at other locations.
  • Low Performance/High Score: These facilities are performing below predicted levels. They are in the right trade area but may require further investment to reach their potential. Remodeling, operational changes, and localized marketing are options.
  • High Performance/Low Score: Outperforming expectations, these facilities are anomalies that should be studied further.
  • Low Performance/Low Score: These facilities don’t have much potential, which is confirmed by actual performance. They should be evaluated for relocation or closure.

The final deliverable of the healthcare facility assessment is a PowerPoint chart and Excel table showing which of your existing facilities are candidates for the service(s) included in your model(s).
